Town of Islip MRF Recyclables Characterization – October 2019

The Town of Islip collects two sets of recyclables on alternate weeks: paper and containers. Paper is delivered to the tipping hall then transshipped with minimal processing to Great Northern. Containers are delivered to the tipping hall then processed through the MRF through a manual sorting process. The sorted recyclables are dropped through floor ports to 20-40 yard roll-off containers. Rejects are a positive sort; the negative sort is intended to be a mixed plastic container stream (delivered to Omni Babylon). Sampling occurred outdoors next to the bunker of retained mixed plastics containers.
