Dr. David Tonjes, Director of Stony Brook University’s Waste Data & Analysis Center, received a prestigious 2024 Eco Award from Westchester County’s Department of Environmental Facilities. The award was presented at their fifth annual Eco Awards ceremony held at Glen Island Park on April 18th.
The Eco Awards recognize outstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainability efforts by individuals and organizations across various sectors. Dr. Tonjes’ dedication to improving solid waste management in New York for over 30 years earned him this recognition. His work encompasses both technical solutions and policy recommendations. Westchester County specifically acknowledged his valuable contributions, which included three years of data collection at the Westchester transfer station.
