Delaware County receives single stream recyclables from waste hauling companies operating in the County which are received and processed at the County MRF located next to the Walton landfill. At eight transfer station and the Walton location, there are resident drop-off areas where source separated recyclables are collected; roll offs are brought to the MRF as they fill. Recyclables streams collected there include a container stream, which is processed through the MRF; a mixed paper stream which is visually inspected and minimally processed prior to baling; and an OCC stream, which also is visually screened and minimally processed prior to baling. The MRF produces a negative sort residual, which is managed through the solid waste composter. MRF pickers know it is not bad practice to allow some mixed paper and OCC to not be picked, as these paper products provide carbon and bulking for the composter. The MRF produces a mixed plastic bale that is intended to meet #4/#5 plastic markets. The pickers have been told this should include non-#1/#2 plastic containers and all plastic lids. The MRF also produces PETE, MRP, Tin, AG plastics, aluminum, and pigmented as well as natural HDPE bales.
